2019 — Our Awards and Achievements

In the 2020 U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings, Hacettepe University ranked 220th in the world in the field of "PHARMACY and TOXICOLOGY," and was the only Turkish university to appear on the list in this field.

Dr. Beyza AYAZGÖK, a research assistant in the Department of Biochemistry, received the Hacettepe University 2019-2020 Aziz Sancar Honorary Medal Fund Award to continue her postdoctoral research on neuropathic pain-induced depression at the Institute of Neuroscience, University of Strasbourg.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Kıvılcım ÖZTÜRK ATAR, faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, received the 2018 HACETTEPE AWARDS Medicine and Health Sciences Science Incentive Award for her successful multidisciplinary work on the development of targeted drug-carrier nanosystems in the field of pharmaceutical technology.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa ÇELEBİER, faculty member in the Department of Analytical Chemistry, received the Turkish Pharmacists' Association (TEB) Academy of Pharmacy 2019 Incentive Award.

Pharm. Merve KARPUZ, who was pursuing her doctorate at our Faculty on behalf of Katip Çelebi University Faculty of Pharmacy, became the first research assistant to complete the Radiopharmacy Doctoral Program at the Hacettepe University Graduate School of Health Sciences with an "Orpheus Label" (02/08/2019).

The 1001-type project titled "Evaluation of the Use of Phenoxazine and Phenothiazine-Based Compounds in the Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease and Investigation of Their Mechanisms of Action," led by Prof. Dr. Özden TACAL, faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry, received the TÜBİTAK Project Performance Award.

The study titled "Anticancer and Antitirosinase Activities of Kojic Acid Derived Compound," conducted by Prof. Dr. Mutlu AYTEMİR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe ERCAN, Dr. Pharm. Gülşah KARAKAYA, and Res. Assist. Dr. Selin ÖNCÜL, was awarded a Silver Medal at the ISIF'19 International Invention Fair, organized by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office within the scope of Teknofest in Istanbul between 17-22 September 2019.

2018 — Our Awards and Achievements

According to a study conducted by the ranking organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and announced by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) in January 2018, "Field-Focused Achievement Awards" were given to 10 Turkish Universities that ranked among the top 400 out of one thousand universities worldwide in terms of research and recognition, and our Faculty was among the 4 fields in which Hacettepe University excelled.

Third Place Poster Award: '14th Turkish Pharmacy Congress, 1-3 November 2018, Ankara' — the study titled "A Different Perspective on Internships in Pharmacy Education: Simulation Applications for Communication Skills," by Sözen ŞB, Ulutaş DE, Yeğenoğlu S, Sert O, Elçin M, Baydar T.

In July 2018, Pharm. Seda ÖNDER, a research assistant in the Department of Biochemistry, became the first research assistant to complete the Biochemistry Doctoral Program at the Hacettepe University Graduate School of Health Sciences with an "Orpheus Label"; with her doctoral thesis titled "Characterization of the Monoclonal Antibody Recognizing Protein Adducts Formed After Exposure to Organophosphates," she was among the first to graduate from Hacettepe University with the Orpheus label.

At the EUFEPS Annual Meeting 2018, organized by the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences in Athens, Greece on 24-26 May 2018, the team of Gamze VARAN, Gerrit BORCHARD, and Erem BİLENSOY received the Best Poster Award for their study titled "Determination of Antitumoral Effect and Tumoral Penetration of Amphiphilic Cyclodextrin Nanoparticles on 3D In Vitro Tumor Model."

The 2018 EUFEPS WIPS (Women in Pharmaceutical Sciences) award was granted to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe ERCAN, faculty member of our Faculty, who presented the study titled "Genomic and Metabolomic Studies of Polycationic Amphiphilic Cyclodextrin Nanoparticles on HEPG2 Cell Line," prepared by Ayşe Ercan, Mustafa Çelebier, Gamze Varan, Selin Öncül, Engin Koçak, Ozan Kaplan, and Erem Bilensoy.

On 18 May 2018, the article produced from the doctoral thesis of Pharm. Seda Önder, a research assistant in the Department of Biochemistry, titled "Mass Spectral Detection of Diethoxyphospho-Tyrosine Adducts on Proteins from HEK293 Cells Using Monoclonal Antibody depY for Enrichment" (Onder S, Schopfer LM, Tacal O, Blake TA, Johnson RC, Lockridge O), with Pharm. Seda Önder as first author, was published in the journal Chemical Research in Toxicology — a Q1-category journal with an average impact factor of 3.784 — and was selected as an "ACS Editors' Choice" article by the editors of the American Chemical Society journals.

At the 20th National Hypertension and Kidney Diseases Congress, held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on 09-13 May 2018, the joint study by faculty members of our Faculty's Department of Clinical Pharmacy and our University's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine – Division of Nephrology, titled "Evaluation of Adherence to Immunosuppressive Therapy in Renal Transplant Patients," received the "Best Poster Presentation Award."

At the 23rd Meeting on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, held in Antalya on 09-12 April 2018, Mine UZUN, Nazlı ERDOĞAR, Erem BİLENSOY, and L. Ömür DEMİREZER received the "Best Poster First Place Award" for their study titled "Development of a Phytocosmetic Product from Rumex crispus L. Fruits for Repairing Skin Collagen Tissue."

At the 23rd Meeting on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, held in Antalya on 09-12 April 2018, V. Murat KUTLUAY, Ken-ichi NAKASHIMA, Hiroki TANABE, İclal SARAÇOĞLU, and Makoto INOUE received the "Best 3rd Place Oral Presentation Award" for their study titled "Nuclear Receptors: Investigation of Liver X Receptor α (LXRα) Agonist Compounds Found in Natural Sources."

At the 11th National Pediatric Infectious Diseases Congress, held in Antalya on 04-08 April 2018, Nesligül ÖZDEMİR, Emre KARA, Melda BAHAP, Ayşe BÜYÜKÇAM, Kübra AYKAÇ, Kamile ARIKAN, Sevgen Tanır BAŞARANOĞLU, Ayçe ÇELİKER, S. Kutay DEMİRKAN, Ali Bülent CENGİZ, and Ateş KARA received the "Second Place Presentation Award" for their study titled "Evaluation of Medication Errors in the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Ward."

At the 5th National Hospital and Institutional Pharmacists Congress, held in Antalya on 07-11 March 2018, Burcu KELLECİ, Nursel SÜRMELİOĞLU, Nadir YALÇIN, Rana Tuna DOĞRUL, M. Cemal KIZILARSLANOĞLU, Aygin EKİNCİOĞLU, Meltem HALİL, and S. Kutay DEMİRKAN received the "Best Poster Award" for their study titled "Applicability of STOPP/START Criteria in Turkish Geriatric Patients."

2017 — Our Awards and Achievements

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding, our Faculty was awarded the Turkish Pharmacists' Association Academy of Pharmacy 2017 SERVICE AWARD for its 50 years of contributions to pharmaceutical science. Hacettepe University Faculty of Pharmacy became the first and only Faculty of Pharmacy to receive this award.

The following are the patents belonging to our Faculty's academics that received medals and awards at the HACETTEPE PATENT 2017 AWARD CEREMONY, organized by HTTM on 21 December 2017, and within the scope of the International Invention Fair-ISIF 2017, held in Istanbul on 2-4 March 2017: SILVER MEDAL — for the patent titled "Biologically Active Kojic Acid Derived Mannich Bases," awarded to Prof. Dr. Mutlu Aytemir, Prof. Dr. Berrin Özçelik, Prof. Dr. İlkay Erdoğan Orhan, Dr. Pharm. Gülşah Karakaya, and Dr. Pharm. Fatma Sezer Şenol; BRONZE MEDAL — for the patent titled "Oxime Ester-Structured (Arylalkyl) Azole Derived Antifungal Compounds," awarded to Prof. Dr. Sevim Dalkara, Prof. Dr. Selma Saraç Tarhan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arzu Karakurt, and Specialist Pharm. Suat Sarı; BRONZE MEDAL — for the patent titled "Fat-Based Nanocarrier Systems for Use in Cancer Treatment," awarded to Prof. Dr. Reyhan Neslihan Gürsoy and Specialist Pharm. Özge Çevik.

At the 1st International Patient Safety and Health Financing Congress, held in Antalya on 22-26 November 2017, the project titled "An Example of Practical Application of Patient Safety and Interprofessional Collaboration Courses" received First Place in the Patient Safety Category. The faculty members supporting this project as stakeholders on behalf of our Faculty are Assoc. Prof. Dr. N. Tuğba Kandilci, Assist. Prof. Dr. Aygin Ekincioğlu, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Bilge Sözen Şahne.

The invention titled "Biologically Active Kojic Acid Derived Mannich Bases," owned by Prof. Dr. Mutlu Aytemir of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry along with Prof. Dr. Berrin Özçelik, Prof. Dr. İlkay Erdoğan Orhan, Dr. Pharm. Gülşah Karakaya, and Dr. Pharm. Fatma Sezer Şenol, was registered as a Turkish Patent (TR2015 07653 B-WO2016/209180) on 23.06.2015, and an International Patent application (PCT/TR2016/000070) was filed on 17.05.2016.

At the 24th National Pharmacology Congress, held in Trabzon on 17-21 October 2017, the study by İnci Kazkayası, Nihan Burul-Bozkurt, Angel Cedazo-Minguez, and Serdar Uma, titled "The Effect of Diabetes on Insulin-Degrading Enzyme Levels," was awarded the 'Poster Presentation Achievement Award.'

At the Advanced School in Nanomedicine event, held in Italy on 25-28 September 2017, Dr. Pharm. Kıvılcım Öztürk Atar, a research assistant in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, received the 'Best Oral Presentation Award' for her presentation titled "Effective Targeting of Gemcitabine to Pancreatic Cancer Through PEG-Cored Flt-1 Antibody-Conjugated Dendrimers."

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emirhan Nemutlu, faculty member in the Department of Analytical Chemistry, was one of 3 scientists deemed worthy of the Hacettepe University 2016 Science Incentive Award (in the field of Medicine and Health Sciences) for his work in the field of metabolomics.

At the Sanko Innovation in Medicine Summit III, held in Gaziantep on 11-13 May 2017, the presentation by Cem Varan, Murat Şen, Niklas Sandler, and Erem Bilensoy, titled "Preparation and Characterization of Antiviral and Anticancer Drug Printed Film Formulations for the Treatment of Cervical Cancer," received the 'Best Oral Presentation Award.'

The presentation by Ünzile Yaman, Ayşe Derya Buluş, Pınar Erkekoğlu, Nesibe Andıran, and Belma Koçer-Gümüşel, titled "The Role of Endocrine Disruptors and Selenoproteins in Hashimoto's Thyroiditis," received the 'Second Place Poster Presentation Award' at the 39th Turkish Congress of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, held on 3-7 May 2017.

The presentation titled "Invasive Prediction of Fetal Structural Abnormalities Using Metabolomic Profiling," presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emirhan Nemutlu of the Department of Analytical Chemistry and researched by Emirhan Nemutlu, Tuba Reçber, Ece Özkan, Emine Aydın, Gökçen Örgül, Atakan Tanaçan, Sedef Kır, and M. Sinan Beksaç, received the 'First Place Oral Presentation Award' at the Perinatal Medicine-2017 Congress, organized by the Turkish Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Perinatology Society on 28-29 April 2017.

Prof. Dr. Nurşen Başaran, faculty member in Pharmaceutical Toxicology, received a 'Certificate of Achievement' at the 3rd Pharmaceutical and Pharmacy Congress as the faculty member with the highest h-index according to WoS evaluation.

Prof. Dr. Sevda Şenel, faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, was awarded Fellowship of the Controlled Release Society College of Fellows (CRS Scientific Board).

The study titled "Isolation, Purification, and Structural Determination of Lamiide, an Iridoid Glucoside Identified as the Active Compound of Phlomis pungens, a Plant Traditionally Used Among the Public in Azerbaijan for the Treatment of Diabetes," owned by Prof. Dr. İclal Saraçoğlu of the Department of Pharmacognosy along with Pharm. Ayten Shukurova and Prof. Dr. Tahir Suleymanov, faculty members of Azerbaijan Medical University, Faculty of Pharmacy, was granted a patent under patent number A 2016 0059 by the Azerbaijan Industrial Property Rights Expertise Center (AzPatent).

Prof. Dr. Erem Bilensoy, faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, was awarded an Honorary Award and Honorary Membership Certificate by the Hellenic Society of Nanotechnology for Health Sciences in Athens, Greece, on 12 February 2017.

2016 — Our Awards and Achievements

The DERMALİX team (Prof. Dr. Özgen Özer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İpek Eroğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Evren Homan Gökçe, Dr. Pharm. Sakine Tuncay Tanrıverdi), which included Assoc. Prof. Dr. İpek Eroğlu of the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences, received first place in the INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP category as part of the 'Crystal Tree Awards,' organized by the METU Young Entrepreneurs Community.

Prof. Dr. Erem Bilensoy, faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, was elected for the second time as President of the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS) Council.

The presentation titled "Determination of DNA Damage and Oxidative Stress Effects of Helicobacter pylori in Human Gastric Adenocarcinoma Cells and the Possible Protective Effect of Inorganic Selenium," presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pınar Erkekoğlu of the Department of Pharmaceutical Toxicology, and researched by Pınar Erkekoğlu, Yan Feng, Jing Ge, Belma Koçer-Gümüşel, Laura J. Trudel, Bevin P. Engalward, Steven R. Tannenbaum, and Gerald N. Wogan, received the 'First Place Oral Presentation Award' at the "33rd National Gastroenterology Week" congress, organized by the Turkish Society of Gastroenterology on 22-27 November 2016.

The presentation titled "Comparison of Gut Microbiota Using Next-Generation Sequencing Analysis in Patients with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Healthy Controls," which included Ceren Erdoğdu, a research assistant in the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology, and researched by Erdoğdu C, Yalınay M, Karakan T, Battaglia T, and Blaser MJ, received the 'First Place Oral Presentation Award' at the 37th Turkish Microbiology Congress, held on 6-20 November 2016.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. N. Tuğba Kandilci, faculty member in the Department of Pharmacology, was elected to the Supervisory Board of the Federation of European Pharmacological Societies (EPHAR) for the 2016-2020 term on 04 November 2016.

The 2015 "Scientific Contribution" appreciation award went to Prof. Dr. Kezban Ulubayram, faculty member in the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the "Academic Who Made a Difference in Education" appreciation award went to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kutay Demirkan, faculty member in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy. The appreciation awards for our Faculty's nominees were presented by our Rector, Prof. Dr. A. Haluk Özen, at the 2016-2017 Academic Year Opening Ceremony.

Prof. Dr. A. Nurşen Başaran, faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Toxicology, was elected Vice President of the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX) for the 3-year term covering 2016-2019, in elections held during the XIV International Congress of Toxicology in Merida, Mexico, on 2-6 October 2016.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevtap Aydın, faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Toxicology, received the Turkish Pharmacists' Association Central Council – Turkish Pharmacists' Association Academy of Pharmacy 2016 Incentive Award.

The study titled "Side Effects' Assessments of New Targeted Therapies by a Clinical Pharmacist in Oncology Outpatient Clinic," presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Aygin Bayraktar Ekinci, along with Esra Küçük, Burcu Kelleci, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kutay Demirkan, faculty member in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, received the "Best Poster Presentation Award" at the 45th European Society of Clinical Pharmacy (ESCP) Symposium, held in Oslo on 5-7 October 2016.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kutay Demirkan, faculty member in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, along with Sadık Kılıçturgay, Kubilay Demirağ, Derya Hopancı-Bıçaklı, Hülya Sungurtekin, Zekeriya Ülger, Tülay Erkan, and Osman Abbasoğlu, won the "MNI Grant 2016 – Project Award," given by Medical Nutrition International Industry (ESPEN-MNI) on 19 September 2016, for the project titled "Focus on Students: A Novel Approach to Fight Against Malnutrition."

The poster titled "Development of Poly(ε-caprolactone) Fibers Containing Vancomycin/Gelatin Microspheres for the Treatment of Osteomyelitis," presented by our Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences faculty members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eda Ayşe Aksoy, Prof. Dr. Kezban Ulubayram, along with Betül Süyümbike Yağcı, Gülseher Manap, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İpek Eroğlu, and Şükrü Öztürk, won Second Place at the 'VI. National Polymer Science and Technology Congress,' held at Hacettepe University on 4-7 September 2016.

The poster titled "The Effect of Melissa officinalis Culture Plant Extract on BDNF Levels in the SH-SY5Y Cell Line," presented by our Department of Pharmacognosy faculty members Prof. Dr. L. Ömür Demirezer, Specialist Pharm. Ekrem Murat Gönülalan, Prof. Dr. Funda Nuray Yalçın, and O. Bayezaid, won First Place at the '22nd Meeting on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (BİHAT),' held in Trabzon on 31 August-5 September 2016.

2015 — Our Awards and Achievements

• At the National Cancer Week Symposium, held by the Turkish Public Health Institution on 1 April 2015, the project titled "On the Development and Licensing of Immediate-Release and Controlled-Release Morphine Sulfate Tablet Formulations in Turkey," carried out in collaboration between our Faculty of Pharmacy and İLKO İlaç San. ve Tic. A.Ş., under the direction of our faculty members Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Çapan, Prof. Dr. Bülent Gümüşel, and Prof. Dr. Sedef Kır, received the Incentive Award.
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Sabuncuoğlu, one of our Pharmaceutical Toxicology faculty members, won the Hacettepe University 2015 Health Sciences Incentive Award.
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Didem Şöhretoğlu, one of our Department of Pharmacognosy faculty members, was elected Southeast European Representative of the Phytochemical Society of Europe.
• Prof. Dr. A. Nurşen Başaran, Chair of our Faculty's Department of Pharmaceutical Toxicology, was elected to the Board of Directors of the "International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX)" for the 2013-2016 term.
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Didem Şöhretoğlu, our Department of Pharmacognosy faculty member, was unanimously elected Southeast European Representative of the Phytochemical Society of Europe.
• Prof. Dr. Erem Bilensoy, our Department of Pharmaceutical Technology faculty member, was unanimously elected President of EUFEPS – European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences for a 2-year term beginning 15 June 2015, becoming the first Turkish President in EUFEPS's history since its founding in 1991.
• Best Presentation SECOND PLACE Award, '9th KEPAN, Clinical Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition Congress 2015' — the study titled "Aluminum Exposure Due to Parenteral Nutrition in Premature Newborns," prepared by Avidan Kızılelma Yiğit, Şerife Suna Oğuz, Fuat Emre Canpolat, Nilüfer Güzoğlu, Onur Erdem, Terken Baydar, and Uğur Dilmen.

2014 — Our Awards and Achievements

• Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Çapan, faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, won the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) 2014 Fellow Award.
• Specialist Pharm. Seçil Toktaş and Pharm. Selin Seda Doğan, who applied to participate in the Novartis International Biotechnology Leadership Camp 2014 (BioCamp 2014), held at the Novartis International Headquarters in Basel, Switzerland on 24-27 August 2014 with 70 students from 24 countries around the world, successfully made it into the 70 selected from applications worldwide and represented our country at Novartis BioCamp 2014. Within the scope of this event, participants worked in 9 different groups, and the group that included Pharm. Selin Seda Doğan won the Novartis BioCamp 2014 Winning Team award.
• Dr. Pharm. Fırat Yerlikaya, a doctoral student supervised by Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Çapan, faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, received the 14th Mustafa Nevzat Pharmacy Award for his thesis titled "Development and Evaluation of Paclitaxel Nanoparticles Through Quality by Design."
• As a result of the evaluation of applications for the Turkish Pharmacists' Association Academy of Pharmacy 2014 Science Service and Incentive Awards, Prof. Dr. Nurşen Başaran, faculty member in the Faculty of Pharmacy's Department of Pharmaceutical Toxicology, won the 2014 Science Award, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emirhan Nemutlu of the Department of Analytical Chemistry and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samiye Yabanoğlu Çiftçi of the Department of Biochemistry won the 2014 Incentive Awards.
• At the EUFEPS Council meeting held in Vienna on 10-11 October 2014, Prof. Dr. Erem Bilensoy, one of our Department of Pharmaceutical Technology faculty members, was reappointed as a candidate for a second term to the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences Board of Directors, in the role of Treasurer-Funding and Finance Committee Chair.
