General Introduction to Our Faculty

Founded in 1967, the Hacettepe University School of Pharmacy became the "Faculty of Pharmacy" by decision of the Hacettepe University Senate dated 11 February 1971 and numbered 71/216. Our Faculty is the third faculty of pharmacy established in Turkey.

Due to our highly valuable contributions to the development of pharmaceutical and pharmacy science, in the 50th year of our founding, we became the first faculty of pharmacy to receive the Turkish Pharmacists' Association (TEB) Academy of Pharmacy 2017 Service Award and Certificate of Achievement.

Hacettepe University Faculty of Pharmacy continues its 5-year undergraduate program, which has completed the Bologna Process at European Union standards, as well as its graduate/doctoral programs and research and development activities. Hacettepe University Faculty of Pharmacy was granted Full Accreditation for its undergraduate education for the period between 06/01/2015 and 06/01/2021; it also successfully completed the "3rd-year interim evaluation" in 2017, conducted by the ECZAKDER Evaluation and Monitoring Visit Team (DİZE), through a Self-Assessment Interim Report demonstrating the sustainability of the standards.

As the Faculty of Firsts, Hacettepe University Faculty of Pharmacy stands out compared to other faculties of pharmacy in our country through the presence of its Departments of Clinical Pharmacy, Radiopharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, along with the Sections of Cosmetology and Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics, and the contribution of these fields to undergraduate and graduate education. Located on the Sıhhiye Campus of Hacettepe University, our Faculty carries out education using 2 amphitheaters seating 200 people each and 1 amphitheater seating 60 people, 4 student laboratories, 1 Conference Hall seating 200 people, a Seminar Hall seating 25 people, and 1 library seating 25 people.

Within Hacettepe University Faculty of Pharmacy lies the "Old Turkish Pharmacy Museum – Şehremini Central Pharmacy," and this pharmacy is the first museum-pharmacy located within a university. Purchased in 1922 by Pharm. Ahmet Hamdi Emgen from the wife of Pharm. Konstantin Sava Mondiana, the pharmacy was operated by Pharm. Ahmet Hamdi Emgen and his daughter Pharm. İhsan Gezgin until 1980. The pharmacy, closed after 85 years, was deemed suitable for conversion into a museum in 1981 by Pharm. İhsan Gezgin, upon the suggestion of Prof. Dr. Ekrem Sezik, a faculty member who was among the founders of our Faculty; it was established within our Faculty together with all its cabinets, furniture, medicines, and documents, and opened on 23 December 1983 as the Old Turkish Pharmacy Museum.

In order for our students to begin their internships with a more up-to-date education, the SIMULATION PHARMACY, located within the Hacettepe University Interprofessional Education and Simulation Center established in 2015, was put into service in 2016, thereby providing our students with opportunities for internships and other pharmacy practice starting from the 2016-2017 Academic Year. The Practice Pharmacy, which was established years ago with the aim of enabling our Faculty's students to learn pharmacy practices, has since evolved and been made more functional, and was activated as the second Simulation Pharmacy under the name PHARMACY PRACTICE STATION as of the 2019-2020 Academic Year.

The Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy, published by our Faculty since 1981, is issued twice a year. Our environmentally friendly Journal is published as an e-journal through TÜBİTAK DergiPark (Access Address: //dergipark.gov.tr/hujpharm).

The number of articles with a Hacettepe University Faculty of Pharmacy address ("hacettepe and pharmacy"), published in internationally indexed and peer-reviewed journals and found through a search using the keywords "Hacettepe Pharmacy," is a source of academic pride for us*: 159 (2015), 156 (2016), 175 (2017), 176 (2018), 225 (2019), and 279 (2020) articles. Hacettepe University Faculty of Pharmacy has an h-index value of 99, and we are also proud of our citation counts**: 3,006 citations in 2012, 3,042 citations in 2013, 3,403 citations in 2014, 4,183 citations in 2015, 5,963 citations in 2016, 7,312 citations in 2017, 8,399 citations in 2018, 10,962 citations in 2019, 14,233 citations in 2020, and 2,052 citations in the first 3 months of 2021.

The Hacettepe Drug and Poison Information Unit (HİZBİB) was established with the aim of contributing to rational drug use and patient treatment by rapidly providing up-to-date information transfer regarding clinical efficacy, toxicity, and poisoning treatment. The main goal and purpose of the HİZBİB Coordination Office, which jointly provides drug and poison information services, is to ensure effective and safe drug use by providing accurate, up-to-date, comprehensive, and rapid information services related to clinical efficacy, toxicity, and treatment. In addition, up-to-date information is provided to the public and healthcare professionals through the Teratogenicity Information Unit.

Setting out on this path with the philosophy of "Further Forward, To the Best," Hacettepe University Faculty of Pharmacy opens its doors to all prospective undergraduate and graduate students interested in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and cosmetics sectors, to all academics for research and development, and to all stakeholders who wish to contribute.
