Faculty of Pharmacy
General Information - Department of Radiopharmacy

Pharmaceutical dosage forms that contain at least one radioactive substance in their composition and are used in the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases are called Radiopharmaceuticals. The pharmacist responsible for the entire process—from formulation, preparation, quality control, and dose dispensing, to pharmacokinetics, toxicity, and administration to the patient—is referred to as a Radiopharmacist (Nuclear Pharmacist). The branch of pharmacy that deals with these activities is known as Radiopharmacy.

The Department of Radiopharmacy at Hacettepe University Faculty of Pharmacy was established on June 9, 1993, and is one of the departments under the Division of Pharmaceutical Technology. It houses two research laboratories: 1. Research Laboratory and 2. Research and Quality Control Laboratory.

As part of the undergraduate pharmacy program, 1 compulsory and 6 elective courses are offered. With the compulsory and elective courses taken during undergraduate education, students will be able to recognize the field of Radiopharmacy, learn the ways of obtaining radionuclides, gain familiarity with the formulation and quality control studies of radiopharmaceuticals, have knowledge about waste management, learn the radiopharmaceuticals that are drugs and medical devices in pharmacopeias, and learn the radiopharmacy in which all these are carried out.

There are many national and international collaborations for postgraduate education, and pharmacists who complete their postgraduate education can continue their professional careers as Radiopharmacists in Radiopharmacy Laboratories in Nuclear Medicine Departments of public and private hospitals and pharmaceutical companies that produce radiopharmaceuticals, as Radiopharmacists in official institutions such as the Ministry of Health Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency, Turkey Energy, Nuclear and Madem Research Institute and as academic staff in universities.
