Course : ECF 301 Pharmacognosy I

Semester and Year : Fall, three

Content : Pharmacognosy, Chemistry of primary and secondary metabolites , importance and medicinal properties of these metabolites in Pharmacognosy and pharmacy, importance and activities of important metabolites–containing medicinal plants.

 

Course : ECF 302 Pharmacognosy II

Semester and Year : Spring, three

Type and Credits (T-P-C-ECTS): Required, 2-0-2-3

Content : Chemistry of terpenes; place, importance and medicinal properties of terpenoids in Pharmacognosy and properties, importance and activities of important terpene–containing medicinal plants. 

 

Course : ECF 307 Pharmacognosy I Lab.

Semester and Year : Fall, three

Type and Credits (T-P-C-ECTS): Required, 0-3-1-2

Content : Demonstration on microscope, microscopic examinations in theory, microscopic analysis, (starch, crystalloids, simple prims, twin prisms, raphid, sandy crystals, oils, aleurone, mucilaginous) elements of leaves (cell, coveringhairs, stomata and secretion gland, labistae type glandular hair) roots and barks (sclerenchyma, wood vessels, cork, idioblast) flowers and seeds, (polen, stigma, endotesium), examination of unknown sample, qualitative analysis: identification of some primary and secondary metabolites, such as, saponins, anthranoids, cyanogenetic glycosides, tannins; chromatography applications, quantitative analysis of sugars, analysis of oligosaccarides and heterosides, experiments of proteins, enzymes, lipids and fixed oils. 

 

Course : ECF 308 Pharmacognosy II Lab. 

Semester and Year : Spring, three 

Type and Credits (T-P-C-ECTS): Required, 0-3-1-2 

Content : Isolation of anethole by column chromatography from  O. Foeniculi, isolation of eugenol from Szygium aromaticum. Quantitative determination of total aldehydes. Quantitative determination of total alcohol and determination of terpenes from O. Menthae. Pharmacopoeia analysis of Thyme oleum and Olea europaea. Determination reactions of saponins, cardiotonic glycosides and iridoids.

 

Course : ECF 401 Pharmacognosy III

Semester and Year : Fall, four

Type and Credits (T-P-C-ECTS): Required, 2-0-2-3

Content : Alkaloiddefinition,qualitativeandquantitativeanalysis, extraction and isolation methods, chemical classifications, families including alkaloids, important alkaloid drugs, drugs properties, chemical structures and theiruse.The importance ofalkaloids in Pharmacognosy.

 

Course : ECF 407 Pharmacognosy III Lab.

Content : Determination reactions of Alkaloids, quantitative colorimetric analysis of Solanaceae alkaloids, Quantitativ analysis of total alkaloids of Cortex Chinae, Chromatographic analysis  of alkaloids in medicine, Isolation of cafein  from black tea and its Pharmacopea analysis, Activity tests of Antibiotics, Total qualitativ analysis of herbal teas, Project Presentation.

 

Course : ECF 205 Basic Concepts Of Natural Drugs

Semester and Year : Fall, two

Type and Credits (T-P-C-ECTS): Elective, 2-0-2-3

Content : It’s include of knowledge about natural drugs, pharmaceutical raw materials and excipients obtained from natural and other biological sources such as plants, animals, microorganisms, marine organisms, minerals and complementary therapies like phytotherapy, kampo, aromatherapy and homeopathy.

Content : Investigation of natural medicine production technologies from crude material to l ast product.

 

Course : ECF 400 Poisonous Plants-Natural Toxines

Semester and Year : Spring, four

Type and Credits (T-P-C-ECTS): Elective, 2-0-2-2

Content : Detection of natural toxines of organisms, their chemical structures and biological effects; biogen toxines structure and activity relationships; organisms of dangerous poisons, biogen toxines role of the toxins in biological systems; Monoterpene, sesquiterpene, diterpene, triterpene and steroidal biogen poisons, poisonous compounds of saponin, phenylpropane and anthracenes; aminoacid, amine, cyanogen and glucosinolate structures; toxic compounds with isoquinoline, tropolon and indol structure; kynasoline, pyrollisidine, pyridine compounds; terpenoid and steroidal alkaloids. Peptide toxines in fungi; distribution, taxonomy and botany of Turkey’s poisonous plants.

 

Course : ECF 403 Phytotherapy

Semester and Year : Fall, four

Type and Credits (T-P-C-ECTS): Elective, 2-0-2-3

Content : For the scientific application of phytotherapy, some body systems and related disorders and related herbals and mechanism of biological activity were given.

 

Course : ECF 404 Modern Pharmacognosy

Semester and Year : Spring, four

Type and Credits (T-P-C-ECTS): Elective, 2-0-2-3

Content : Recent developments on isolation and structure elucidation of natural products, chemistry, bioactivity guided isolation methods.  Obtaining biologically active compounds directly by bioactivity guided fractionation. The recent advances in pharmacognosy (metabolemics etc.).

 

Course : ECF 405 Pharmaceutical Biology

Semester and Year : Fall, four

Type and Credits (T-P-C-ECTS): Elective, 2-0-2-3

Content : Therapeutical products obtained by basic biotechnological methods, microorganisms, fermentation, fermentation products; antibiotics, vaccines, sera, microbiological transformation; steroids, terpenes, alkaloids, recombinant  biotechnological drugs; plant tissue culture, Agrobacterium species and transformation of plant tissue cultures by using protoplasts and secondary metabolites isolated from these cultures, monoclonal antibodies, enzymes, hormones, eatable vaccines, products obtained from mammalian cell cultures, blood and blood products.

 

Course : ECF 509 Phytopharmaceuticals

Semester and Year : Fall, five

Type and Credits (T-P-C-ECTS): Elective, 2-0-2-3

Content : This course comprises usage of herbal medicines, minerals, phytochemicals, vitamins, amino acids and plant-drug interactions.
