Department of Pharmacology - General Overview and Research Areas

The Department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy was established in 1979 by Prof. Dr. Oğuz Kayaalp. To date, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Kayaalp, Prof. Dr. Gül Ayanoğlu-Dülger, Prof. Dr. Rümeysa Demirdamar, Prof. Dr. Atilla Hıncal, Prof. Dr. İnci Şahin-Erdemli, and Prof. Dr. Serdar Uma have served as the heads of the department, with Prof. Nezahat Tuğba Kandilci currently holding the position. In addition to mandatory courses like Pharmacology and Rational Drug Use in the undergraduate curriculum of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the department also offers elective courses such as Applied Pharmacology, Pharmacological Methods in Drug Research, and Formulation Information. Moreover, it coordinates the Anatomy-Physiology courses within the undergraduate curriculum of the Faculty of Pharmacy. Additionally, it offers the Medical Terminology and Drug Information courses within the Pharmacy Services Program of the Vocational School of Health Services, as well as the Pharmacology course in the Electroneurophysiology Program.

Graduate programs in Pharmacology began in the 1965-1966 academic year. Until 2015, postgraduate education was conducted jointly with faculty members from the Department of Medical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine under the "Institute of Health Sciences Master’s and Ph.D. Program in Pharmacology." Since the fall semester of 2015-2016, it has been conducted as "Master’s in Pharmacology" and "Ph.D. in Pharmacology" programs under the Department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
